IIT Kanpur’s SATHEE Initiative Ignites Competitive Exam Success in Punjab’s Government Schools

IIT Kanpur’s SATHEE Initiative

Kanpur, July 17, 2025 – The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, in a groundbreaking collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has successfully implemented its transformative SATHEE (Self-Assessment Test and Help for Entrance Exams) initiative across 569 non-School of Eminence (non-SOE) government institutions in Punjab during the last academic year. This free, technology-driven platform is democratizing access to high-quality competitive exam coaching, yielding remarkable results for students in the state.

The impact of SATHEE on academic performance in Punjab has been significant. The number of students qualifying for JEE Main surged from 49 in 2024 to an impressive 85 in 2025. Similarly, NEET qualifiers saw a substantial increase, rising from 335 in 2024 to 497 in 2025. This remarkable improvement within a single academic year underscores the initiative’s effectiveness. Teachers across the state report a notable shift, with many students who previously relied on expensive private tuition now fully depending on SATHEE for their structured coaching and mentorship needs.

Prof. Amey Karkare, Project In-charge of SATHEE at IIT Kanpur, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative’s success. “SATHEE is enabling a silent revolution in equitable education,” he stated. “Through this initiative, we are proving that when given the right tools and guidance, students from all backgrounds can rise to their fullest potential. The success in Punjab is a testimony to what focused, inclusive interventions can achieve.”

Designed with a focus on students from economically weaker backgrounds, SATHEE provides a comprehensive suite of academic resources. These include recorded and live lectures delivered by expert faculty, daily practice problems, rigorous mock tests, and invaluable motivational sessions led by mentors from prestigious institutions like IITs and AIIMS. A core strength of the platform lies in its self-assessment tools, which empower students to meticulously evaluate their progress and refine their preparation strategies.
